February 6, 2008 at 2:42 AMHi. I am very excited to be in Chengdu this New Year's Eve, and definitely Chinesepod.com has helped me to enjoy my time here. It is lucky for me to have Chinese friends here to make my enjoyment and understanding of what is happening around me even greater. I am going to go out now and buy some fireworks!! Happy New Year.

January 13, 2008 at 2:55 AMHi everybody, I must say the food all sounds very delicious to me. I would just like to comment on the cultural aspects of the lesson. The two people are deciding what to eat, and the pickiness of one of them determines what they can eat because they are going to share the food. If these two are good friends would it not be polite to allow the picky one to choose the food? That is unless they are both picky.

December 29, 2007 at 2:55 AMHi guys, Great lesson as usual. I would have thought that the husband would not only be requested to turn on the light, but also to dispatch the mosquito. I have a question about 1st tones. My Chinese teacher told the class that 1st tones don't change within a sentence, especially at the end. The dialogue fits with what the teacher said, but Jenny uses two different 1st tones when saying 开灯 and 关灯 sometimes. I have a friend whose name is two 1st tones and she says these as a low 1st 1st tone and a higher 2nd one. So I asked the teacher if what she said about the tones was alway true, and she said yes. So is this a regional thing? (老师是北京人) 谢谢！

December 17, 2007 at 2:24 AMHi there! There is one thing I am confused about, and it is highlighted by today's lesson. (Actually there are many things, but let's not get carried away.) In the first sentence we soften it with 吧 at the end to make it a suggestion, but the third sentence just has the 走 at the end. Does this imply that the speaker is becoming somewhat cranky, or does the fact you made a suggestion first mean that this is also a suggestion?

I have seen the problem mentioned in the conversations, but I have not read the solution. My commute each day is over 3 hours, and I listen to my pod device all the way. I like to listen to podcasts again, but there is a unique feeling when listening a first time. Help me please!
