I have to disagree with this.

"Why did you eat and then came over?" sounds VERY awkward.

In "Why did you eat and then come over?", the verb tense has NOT changed. It is just that DID was not repeated the second time. The verbs are "did eat" and "did come over". This sentence sounds very natural.

Of course your other alternative is valid, and a more common expression.
