p.s.: "Rotten" is Wenlin's definition of 豆腐的腐。

Bazza, Wenlin says 豆 is from "a picture of a sacrificial vessel, or dish for food. Borrowed for 'bean,'" 腐 is 府 (政府的府) over 肉 ("meat"). Which, when combined as 腐, means "rotten." Think: "when the government is running the grocery store, the food is sure to go rotten." in the end, tofu is just stinky rotten beans that taste delicious when cooked properly.

Changye, There's a Suntory brewery (factory?) in 昆山,on the bus route 从太仓到苏州。 我不知道这个地方有没有 tours, 但是如果一个外国的“我要看看喝喝你的啤酒,” 他们应该给你什么平啤酒。

Wildyaks, I was with 2 other 老外 in a small village outside of Shanghai. We were an hour away from the city, so a short bus ride and we were in trendy, expensive and interesting company. But Thursday nights, after classes were over, it was beer and a pirated DVD for the three of us. We were very cheap dates.

When I was leading English Corners (with University students at a not-so-great University, I had to improvise and find things to discuss that piqued the students' interest. This was incredibly difficult to do and usually led us to pop music or "what it's like in America."

" but they just get whole boxes of beer and get plastered..." After 6 months in Taicang, I'm convinced the best way to spend an evening is with a 29 kuai case of Qingdao, or a 25 kuai case of Suntory. Note that the case will conveniently fit on the back rack of your bicycle, and you can take the top off the case, and it's quite easy to reach back for a cold one on the way home. Although it's not advised.

"Chinese names are really beautiful and so interesting. A name is also part of who you are. I hope that this practice of using English names comes to an end soon." Did you hear about the Chinese parents who wanted to name their kid "王@“?

John, Ben Franklin had the same problem on occasion (nothing to write about). He would write when he woke up, what the weather was like, and when he went to bed if there was nothing else to say. Although that is a lot different than filling in days he forgot to write with "nothing happened."

I'd just like to thank you all for allowing me to procrastinate. I was just laying on my living room floor listening to the lessson through my stereo (really loudly since no one was home), and I came to my computer to do the exercises, only to become totally immersed in this conversation. Now it's dinnertime! 牛排!
