Anyway, Henning, I would agree with you. Even in English there are some crazy combinations of language (especially in humor) that if you're not up on the language, they can really pass you by.
But Chinese seems to have as many words as English does, and it's challenging to get fluent.
My Chinese is pretty good, but when people ask me if I'm fluent, I can't really say yes.
What are other people's thoughts on this? How fluent is fluent?

When I was in Taiwan I remember them saying hao3 xaio4 a whole lot. I never knew about gao3xiao4 though.
