还有一个关于指甲的问题: how do you say "get my nails filled" in Chinese?  (if you have fake (acrylic) nails, you have to go every two weeks to have new acrylic applied to the bottom by the cuticles -- this is called "getting a fill")  我今年夏天要去中国,所以一定要学会这个说法! 多谢!:)

Sorry, evelyne!  Get ready to laugh :D

便秘 (biànmì) = constipation

老外有便秘的问题很好笑 (lăowài yŏu biànmì de wèntĭ hĕn hăo xiào); literally "a foreigner with a constipation problem is very funny"

Unfortunately, I mistakenly wrote 便蜜 (also pronounced biànmì but the second character means "sweet / honey", so I basically wrote "poop is sweet like honey" or something along those lines!)

哎呀, 好丢脸  (āiyā, hăo diūliăn) = aggh, so embarrassing!  (丢脸 diūliăn is a great word -- it literally means "lose face")

Oof...it was 丢脸 nineteen years ago when it happened and it's still 丢脸 today!  I was in Taiwan for several months after this incident and never walked past the doctor's office again!  LOLOL

Without question, my most embarrassing Chinese language mistake happened at a doctor's office in Taiwan.  There was a new American teacher at my school who didn't speak any Chinese.  She was having trouble adjusting to the food and asked if I'd take her to the doctor for a 便秘 remedy.  So we went and I had to fill out the usual paperwork -- name, address, nature of her complaint, etc.  When I handed it to the receptionist, she chuckled but I figured it was because 老外有便秘的问题很好笑。Only after we left the doctor's office did I realize I had made a mistake and written 便蜜 instead of 便秘!!!  哎呀, 好丢脸! When I tell this story to my Chinese friends, they fall over with laughter.  LOL
