that was what I thought, but it seems like a more preferred way of refferring to citizen of Afghanistan is to use "Afghani". Watyamacallit has Afghanistan as his/her country but for some reason I find that hard to believe

this is a Chinese joke with deep cultural undertones ? Would you care to endulge me a bit ? I thought it was just two people saying hello on an elevator/lift and then saying goodbye once when of them had to get off. Can you explain the joke and the deep cultural undertones ?
