June 9, 2009 at 1:59 PMAnother great menu-stealer adventure! When I lived in Chongqing I was told the divided hot-pot was "yin and yang" - like the symbol. But this also makes sense, the mandarin duck, nestled. Thanks for a very informative lesson!

June 18, 2009 at 10:27 AMLoved the Dongbei lesson! It's a great place, try coming up to the ice festival in Harbin in the winter. And up here people expect the ladies to drink more than in the south. Beer and baijiu is common at dinners and you're expected to drink, whereas in the south the ladies usually pass. And the jiaozi is very special. Hope you get to try it!
