there is another word 恐怕. it means "be afraid of/that" ,but I think the more suitable meaning is "maybe".For example, 恐怕今天要下雨了: 1.maybe it will rain today or 2.I'm afraid that it will rain today.恐怕 is a adv. that speculating something will happen and the probability is high
