Although discussion here has petered out a bit, in light of the dialogue's discussion of medical insurance for foreigners, I thought this was still worth posting:
Ernst & Young reports that starting July 1, 2011, expat employees will be required to participate in the PRC social security system. Two weeks ago, proposed regulations fleshing out the law were released for public comment which would require Chinese employers to make social security contributions on behalf of expat employees,[Does this include you, Chinesepod?], including $ for medical insurance, unemployment, workers comp, pension. Eligible foreign nationals would be entitled to these gov't benefits to the same extent as Chinese citizens. E & Y says that some of these more specific rules may also come into force on July 1.
I'm curious whether Chinesepod subscribers and staff are aware of these coming changes and/or are seeing their companies prepare to respond?
