Janet,

I have spent about 5 years in Shanghai and agree with what most of the others say. Bring your bike, but don't leave an expensive bike outside. I use a commuter bike (have bought several decent ones in the 800-2000 RMB range) that i don't need to worry (much) if it gets stolen.

Over the years i've had a couple bikes stolen. Always when locked, but not locked to a solid object.

hiewhongliang, my advice would be get 2 locks, perhaps one frame-mounted rear-wheel lock and another big-ass chain lock and lock it to a large object or fence whenever possible (it usually is). I've been doing this for a couple years without losing a bike.

Gotta say, i love biking around shanghai, and the odd stolen bike or little accident is still worth it :)

As i explore further, i see that some sensitive words (i just found out Hu Jin Tao is a sensitive word) will pass in baigoogledu, but not in google.com. When i fire up the proxy, i get quite different results from the "google" side of baigoogledu and the google search.

Very interesting...

I thought this lesson was a good one - and interesting to learn about baigoogledu. One thing i noticed this morning: when i do a search in baigoogledu, the google results are different than when i do the identical search in google.com. Does anybody know why that is? Is baigoogledu actually a fake google. I searched 内蒙古
