August 7, 2008 at 1:14 PMIn fact, the point here isn't to learn how to say "Microsoft" in Chinese but to learn the language. If you learn enough basic vocabulary and structure you can talk about the farm, the village, or the high rise apartment being constructed down the street. The specialized terms and subjects are nice bells and whistles to hang on your vocabulary keychain, but the ultimate goal is opening the door.

July 29, 2008 at 12:13 PMReally great lesson! Although I've studied Chinese for almost 3 yeas now, somehow I managed to neglect learning more than the basic and most common colors. I feel like I just stepped into a world of endless color possibilites like Dorathy in the Wizard of Oz. Thanks for showing me the light!

I have to say Alanis is the cooler Canadian (compared to Bryan Adamns, not compared to Amber of course). This one is full of 什么都sentences just begging for translation.

So if I say “记不住“ the meaning is I could never get the memory into the memory box
and "不记得“ means it's trapped inside the memory box (cannot recall).
