"to take out or to eat here?"

what is the standard phrase in Chinese? I got confused a couple of times when the waiter asked me.

I like the Qing Wen lessons very much as they reveal aspects of the language that are hard to find in dictionaries and grammar books.

I have plenty of questions. Just to name a few:

The exact use of words:

How to translate "to correct"? As a teacher I tried to find the correct translation for 'correcting' my students' papers. This is different from 'correcting' one's behaviour, for instance or using the 'correct' word.

Another problem I had when I had to go to the local police station for 'registration'. I couldn't find the appropriate word in my dictionary and I knew I it is different from 'registration' at the hospital. (Fortunately, there was a young police officer who spoke fluent English and she helped me out).

Another  area of difficulty in this mysterious language is the use of the complements in expressions like 看起来,看不了, 买不起, 等等.

I am looking forward to your next issues of Qing Wen.

To be more precise, the statue was offered by the French people in 1886, whereas the independence of the US was in 1776. The intention was to have it ready on the 100th anniversary of the independence of the US, but political and funding problems caused the delay.

It is certainly a 'must see' , together with Ellis Island.

jiaojie, yarajeev, 谢谢你们。这是真复杂。现在我了解一点点, little by little ...

A 'system' consist of individual parts or elements that are somewhat linked or grouped. The way they grouped determines what word to use. In a 制度 the elements are linked by rules, regulations, etc. In a 系统 the elements are interconnected and influence each other or need each other. In a 体系these links can be more abstract, e.g. a common believe. Did I got it right?

But most "systems" correspond to two or even three of these classes. Take the CPC as an example. See how the Chinese apply it.

A nice example of the richness of the Chinese language.

Very interesting lesson!

In this lesson you were using three different words that you translated as "system": 制度,体系,系统 and my dictionary shows a few more.

Is there a 'system' to know which one to use in what context?
