How about the other dialects, like Kantonese, Hakka or Hokkien?

I never find anybody speaking Shanghainese in my country so far, but the above dialects are commonly spoken among Indonesian-Chinese. Still, Mandarin is the one which is taught as foreign language together with English etc.

I'm now in Beijing for a business trip. First visit to China!! 我很激动来中国.

I have my colleague picked me up at the airport. And, I really appreciate it.

I can now have a real practice of my Chinese ability starting with "辛苦你了，谢谢“ to my colleague who picked me up. I dare myself to speak to everyone from a taxi driver, promotion girl in supermarket and others. My conversation starts with: 对不起，我不太讲华语. And to my surprise, everything goes well.  Their comments: 你说特话还可以. I'm not sure it's their real comment or not, anyway I can be more and more relax having a Chinese conversation.

Hello there,

Can we understand that 那 has two pronunciations, i.e. na4 and nei4? Also the same with 哪, as na3 and nei3.

Is there any difference between both of the pronunciations? Can we use both anytime we like?

I thought the Chinese sound of R is somehow like Indonesian R, which is actually not.  I think Indonesian R sounds like softer Spanish R (as John said in the Chinesepod).

Many useful new words for office use in this lesson.  Thanks a lot!!  I can learn new practical vocabularies.

It's been a month for me joining ChinesePod.  Very interesting podcast indeed.  (I wonder why didn't I join it earlier). I studied and listen all the Newbie, Elementary and Intermediate lessons so far, while driving to/from office everyday. 

I can also start surprising my colleagues by speaking and emailing in Chinese (still only a few words)

Hi Mannu,

I'm a new student in ChinesePod.

Hui (会）is used when we have to (need to) learn / study to be able to to do it, e.g. I can swim, I can play piano, I can speak Chinese.

Neng (能）is used when it's not necessary for us to study first to be able to do something, e.g. you can go home now.

I just joined this ChinesePod last week.  It's really interesting!

To my opinion, this intermediate lesson is really suitable for the transition from elementary level to intermediate level.  More grammar, emotion; but still enjoyable to follow without significant difficulties.
