April 18, 2009 at 3:31 PMthe lesson on halal food is not sufficient. there should be a more detailed lesson on the topic. I think jenny know little about muslims. the muslims dont eat all animals, for example they eat goat, sheep, cow, stage, rabbit but they dont eat animals such as dogs, rats, frogs, toads, donkey, reptiles (snakes, lizzards, etc), turtles, horses, mules, etc. they also eat some birds but not all, such as they eat hen, sparrow, pigeon, other domestic birds, but dont eat crow, eagles, etc.
the animals and birds that are permissble for muslims should be properly slaughtered by a muslim while reciting specified words phrases from Al Quran (the holy book of muslims).
Fish is not slaughtered and it is taken as such.
care must be taken that all the animals and bird at the time of their slaughter were alive.
All halal animals such as cow, goat etc if die before theyr are slaughtered by a muslim must be discarded and they will not be eated by muslims.
Te opposite of HALAL (arabic word meaning =allowed) is HARAM (arabic word meaning = not allowed).
I suggest Jenny to please visit the website Halalfoodauthority.co.uk. and design a a full lesson. this lesson would help not only in learning chinese but also help the muslim in finding and ordering HALAL food easily.
Thanks!

April 19, 2009 at 6:42 AMHi Kimiik
you are right. I am a muslim. actually there are four MASLAKs (arabic word meaning cult=system of religious worship).the concept of HALAL is different for the followers of different MASLAKS.As for the pig and wine is concerned, they are strictly HARAM (not permissible) as written in Holey Quran. So in all the maslaks these are not permissible. But as for the other animals or birds are concerned the holey quran does not mention them as Halal or haram. for these animals and bird we receive guidance from these maslaks. In some maslaks some animals and birds are haram while in other they may be halal.
In our maslak there are some guidelines for the layman.
1. Carnivores and omnivores are HARAM.Thus lions, dogs, frogs and crows are haram.
2. Animals with Paws (such as cats, dogs, lions, etc) are usually HARAM.
3. The most important thing is that if the animals are slaughtered by a non-muslim and even by a muslim he if did not recite those holey verses while slaughtering the animal. then the meat of that animal is haram.
thanKs Kimiik for reading!
