July 19, 2007 at 11:15 AMIt is great how practical these discussions are. We just returned from Shanghai and we were offered seats from the locals on both trains and subways. I love the chinese people. They were so nice to us. Keep up the great work

May 28, 2007 at 11:45 AMI, too realize that on my trip to shang hai that I will be limited because I haven't been learning the charecters. However, because I wish to learn, at the very least, some spoken mandarin I have chosen to spend my time with the pinyin so I can learn it a bit quicker. When I have a bit more time I will begin to focus on the written word.

November 13, 2007 at 2:24 AMBack to the "r" question. If I don't use the "r" and I am in Beijing , will I be understood? Is the best reason to use the dianr sound ,so that one sounds local?
