By the way, does anybody know how to buy a bag of rice in China? My friends went for a trekking in Sichuan and wanted to buy some rice to cook it later during the trekking. Whenever they asked for the 米饭 in a grocery shop the seller was saying that 没有. They had to point the bag with the rice with their fingers. When they asked me how to buy I was unable to explain;-(

In a book that I used to learn I've seen a sentence:
来,抽一支。
It says: "Come, have a cigarette.", I suppose.
With this measure word in the middle it is interesting. I've never seen anything like this. I wonder if I can use it with another v.o.constructions. Can I offer to somebody to have a bowl of rice?

May 16, 2011 at 7:18 PMIn the lesson 根 is the measure word for cigarettes. Before I've learned that it is 支. Is there any difference between them?
Another thing is that 抽烟 is verb + object construction. How can you put a measure word in the middle?

I have a personal question to you. I hope you don't mind:-) How is it possible that your full name consists of only two characters? Every person from China I've met has three characters. It is like one character for Surname and two characters for First Name. I believe your Surname is Zhu. Then do you have only one character for First Name?
