 往 (wǎng)

The word 往 (wǎng) is a preposition indicating a direction, and usually owrks together with a verb. The typical pattern is something like:

what's up with no one in China having 油箱 or QQ! everytime I ask someone for their 邮件 or QQ, I get '用很少 ' or ‘没有'.

does everyone have one?  or is it a cultural thing that only 'special' people can have it?

AAAA HA!  now I know why, sort of.
A friend sent me some pictures of her attending a friend's wedding and I
was 'stumped' as to why she was wearing a T恤, 短裤,人字拖鞋。
I didn't say anything but was thinking :

1.  Bad Taste
2.  No Taste
3.  Poor 没有钱
4.  Just came from the 'beach'

There is always an explanation......now what about that red/white pole?

zenmeyang is more 'how's it' what's happening, how are things?

shenmeyang is more like what kind, what sort of

some examples

你怎么样?

(How are you doing?)

这个怎么样?

(How is this one?)

明天怎么样?

(How about tomorrow?)

你喜欢什么样的?

(What kind do you like?)

你喜欢什么样的男人?

(What kind of man do you like?)

seems like the women are ordering the beer(at least in the CPod episodes).  do women in China like drinking beer?  my impression is most don't drink or barely.

thanks for the link. useful to know other options.

I've had bad luck with cell phones in China. the first time I lost it in the cab, slipped out of my pocket. Second trip, a pick pocket got me(and my camera). the last time, but I had a back up, the phone went belly up.

FWIW :

You can buy a SIM card on Ebay before you travel then you'll know your number before you leave.  Otherwise you can get one at any convenience store or a shop at the airport where you arrive.  Make sure your phone is unlocked, GSM capable, have a 220v charger/converter or laptop to recharge the battery.  I also recommend bringing a back up phone because if something happens to your phone, like losing it, malfunction, etc, it's a BIG problem buying a Chinese phone because everything, instructions, setup, etc, is in Chinese.

Maybe this is starting to 'sink' in.

if I wanted to know why you did it, is this correct? can you use the 'shi...de' pattern? or did I stretch it tooooooo far?

example :

Why did you do it?

你是为什么做的?

Surprisingly Shanghai wasn't that bad. Shenzhen, Hong Kong is a mess.
