If you are in North America you can watch quite a few Taiwanese dramas at Dramafever.com. I've found it useful to innundate myself with the language this way. It also has a few shows from Singapore.

The bulk of their library is Korean dramas, but this is also useful from a cultural standpoint, since K-dramas are popular in China and Taiwan.

Having lived in Kaohsiung (Gaoxiong), I can tell you that the foreigners there pronounce it pretty much the same way as the Taiwan locals do, not the strange way John made up. Non-Chinese Americans who have never been to Taiwan don't even know Kaohsiung exists, so they don't pronounce it at all. :) By the way, it is a great city to live in!

I know that hán 韓 (Korea) and hàn 漢 (Chinese) are different tones and different characters, but does anyone at ChinesePod know why these two words are so similar? I read in a dictionary that 韓 is one of the Seven Heros of the warring state period...

I would like either a Qing Wen or a BST on the relationship between China, Korea, and Japan in history (from the Chinese perspective :)

Thanks for this lesson.  I am a doing a graduate degree in Hebrew Bible and cognate literature.  This lesson helped to bring together two of my passions.

This lesson was hilarious!  Ken, you didn't need to spend so much time justifying it.  I totally agree that silly dialogues can help enforce language just as much as "practical" dialogues, because they stick in your mind.  Good work!
