July 30, 2007 at 8:23 AMpoisonotter, As far as I know the spear in Chinese MA is not for throwing purposes either. But I am a bit confused because in 武术 it is called 枪 not 矛and I'm not sure if they are really synonims or denoting different weapons alltogether.

July 30, 2007 at 4:00 PMI just finished this lesson and I wonder if there is really a contradiction. Perhaps the whole story is just putting us on the wrong foot, because there is bound to be a 'toughest shield in the world' and a 'sharpest spear in the world', the existence of the first doesn't really rule out the other one. Let us paraphrase the story: The 卖东西的人still shouts that he has the sharpest spear in the universe; but now he also sells tofu, and he claims that his tofu is the 'firmest in the world'. Now, if a guy stabs with this spear in the tofu, what happens? :-) Marc in Belgium
