September 8, 2007 at 6:51 PMTo deewitch I had to change over to Mozilla from Microsoft Explorer in order to get the pdf files to download with Traditional characters instead of simplified. Even with my preference in my account info set to Traditional, Explorer still did the simplified. No problems since I switched to Mozilla.

September 7, 2007 at 8:19 PMI don't know about Mainland China, but in Taiwan the drink of choice is bubble milk tea 珍珠奶茶 zhēn zhū nǎi chá should be plenty of material for a lesson around the different varieties.

July 13, 2007 at 7:17 PMI were going to use a dialog regarding drugs, it wouldn't be one where I was shopping for drugs. It would be more along the lines of listening to the news about a drug bust or talking to a son/daughter about kids they know using drugs or the dangerous down side of drug abuse. With the parent/child thing, it is often the kid giving the parent an education about what is available, all the street names, how easy it is to get, what it looks like, the forms it comes in, and the effects.

July 1, 2007 at 3:56 PMalwingate, after about two and a half years focused on speaking Mandarin, I dived into trying to learn to write. All my native Chinese speaking friends told me they had to write characters over and over again in grammar school. I found a book, "250 Essential Chinese Characters". It gives 10 characters in each section. I got into the habit of learning 10 new characters at a time. Writing them over and over again. In the past year, I leaned how to write over 800. The book I am working out of now, "Reading and Writing Chinese" has the "official" list of 2000 essential characters. I understand there are about 4000 common characters and another 2000 duplicates and proper names. That leaves over 35,000 more characters that someone characterized as "monstrosities of no practical use".

June 29, 2007 at 3:50 PMSo was "The Fix" just a teaser? I see it went away the same time as the "dialog only" download. If so, maybe you should have advertised them as such. Regarding the disappearance of the dialog only downloads, I agree with ccclim. The dialog only downloads were part of the basic package when I subscribed. I agree with Clarence, having the explanations in Chinese only doesn't help when you still don't understand Chinese.

October 2, 2007 at 1:58 AMI have seen hao3xiang4 好像 in several lessons. This seems strange to my Taiwanese friends who use kan4qi1lai 看起來。 Is this just a regional difference? Would kan4qi1lai seem strange in Shanghai?
