I was just at the Met a few days ago and saw plenty of Chinese visitors (and heard them speaking Mandarin) throughout the galleries. They were enjoying the museum just like everyone else, unaccompanied by a guide or handler :)  I think a guide would of course be helpful in a group-tour situation, but I saw no evidence that Chinese tourists are given a different reception than anyone else.

If you do another episode on the topic, you might call it "What is this thing called 了“ ... or perhaps "What's 了 got to do with it".. :)  (Sorry, bad puns)

Question - is it just a coincidence that 希尔顿 sounds a little like "She-ra-ton"? Just wondering about the genesis of Hilton's Chinese name.

Also have to give kudos to John for his dry wit in this episode.. "now you can get a job in a hotel welcoming Chinese guests" and the "I, for one..." comment - good stuff. Nice to laugh while I'm learning Chinese.
