Posted on: How to Say This and That in Chinese using 这 and 那
March 27, 2019 at 5:11 PMAccording to my tutor (who is from the south) it's fairly interchangeable but the "zhe er" is more often used as a stronger emphasis in the north, as the "er" sounds often are (and with 2nd tone to be more of a question and the 4th tone a conformation - same with "na" and "na er"), where in the south one might commonly say "zhe li" or "na li" instead. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

The changes to the web version of the chart look great by the way!

March 19, 2019 at 7:47 AMIs it just me or are the "miu" and "diu" sounds played when clicking on the chart exactly how the lesson tells you NOT to say it? There's no "o" sound at all.

March 27, 2019 at 5:51 PMIndeed. I've noticed it a lot in -i endings like "shi'r". Loving the Canadian analogy! Edit: Or maybe it's more nuanced like Singaporeans saying "lah", "leh", etc.?
