Great lesson, thanks.

These two teachers are the best that I've heard on Chinesepod. Their lessons are clear, succinct, and well-paced; they explain new vocabulary brilliantly; and at upper intermediate level it's a really stimulating challenge not to have native English speakers in the lesson.

Thanks very much for your reply. As I've mentioned before, the Advanced level lessons are billed as "Entirely in Chinese". The reason I signed up for Chinesepod and the reason I continue to pay my subscription is to gain access to high-quality lessons 100% in the target language. The problem with Tamia laoshi's lessons is that this teacher - who in my view is far more skilful at explaining things when she uses Chinese - switches to English constantly, even when there is no need to do so whatsoever. Even with difficult lexical or grammatical points, it's perfectly possible to use Chinese to explain things - the lessons on Tiger Moms, for example, contain some really complex stuff but the two hosts do an amazing job of explaining every single point in Chinese.

Can I ask when Tamia laoshi is going to stop using English in these lessons? This issue has been raised by users many times, and to be honest I'm avoiding her lessons now, however interesting the topic, because the constant English interruptions - which are frequently inaccurate or clumsy - are ruining the learning experience. Please could Chinesepod listen to our feedback?!!!

Also, the blurb for the advanced level says "Entirely in Chinese" - and there is sooooooo much English in this lesson!

In particular, it's really unhelpful when a teacher uses English to explain the meaning of a new vocabulary item - such as 关注 means "pay attention". A ton of studies have shown that learners absorb new vocabulary far better when the teacher uses the target language to explain what a new word means.

This is a really great lesson, but could Tamia Laoshi please just use Chinese only, no English? At this level, it actually impedes learning if the instructor moves out of the target language.

No English please! It really spoils the flow of this otherwise great conversation. And we don't need it!
