March 19, 2009 at 3:10 AMmatt_c...yah, can't really complain, just when i want a pizza, that's all. it's quite a mix of food out here, obviously lanzhou noodles and dapanji (big plate of chicken) are pretty popular. don't really have a link to pics though. i've taken my share, but i had my camera stolen in beijing last winter (i've bought a cheap replacement since) - ugh. big cities. i feel for you man.

March 19, 2009 at 2:30 AMway out in zhangye, gansu...we start at 3kuai for 2km and 5jiao for every km there after. we don't have pizza hut or western food...but we can get around for cheap. (10 minutes on side of the city to the other...so not too big of a place - hah)

October 10, 2008 at 5:05 AMi've been to quite a few Chinese speeches...definitely not by choice. like you said Jenny, most of them involve lowered heads and muttered speech. i can't really put a finger on whether the masses enjoy these or not? if not, then why doesn't it change?! ; )

August 4, 2008 at 4:00 AMokay, so i have been told numerous times that traveling on the train is a good opportunity to practice Chinese, but i often find myself wondering what the heck Mr. regional accent person is saying. so instead, i either play tetris, listen to music, or listen to a lovely Chinesepod session. yep, yep. and danjo...i live in Gansu as well, which city are you in? ; )
