when I listen to the examples in expansion:

(three usages under 但是 ...) :

想 always sounds similar to xiao instead of xiang.

Or do I have a problem with my ears?

但是我不想去. But I don't want to go. 1 (But I don't want to go.)

browsing for frequency adverbs I found s.th interesting:

Frequency Adverbs 频率副词 

100%   always,             

I'm always at home in the evenings. 
晚上我总是(100%)在家里。

90%     usually,

I usually wake up early. 
我通常(90%)醒得很早。 

80%     often,

Bill often goes off halfcocked.

50%     sometimes,

(versus:有时)

10%     rarely,seldom,
