@tai.... this is a good list thanks....and the humour and banter helps me remember ... I like Pete's voice actually and he always explains the meaning of phrases well.

one question? 目的 mudi and 目标 mubiao? ....  什么差别 shenme chabie? Or is it not really important which one is used at this level? Any examples of usage?

Also, I heard an expression for gold digger's i.e. women who only like rich men.. anyone remind me what it is?

Off Chinese grammar topic somewhat, but

I went to a Grammar school in England.  These schools still exist in parts of the country, but were generally phased out for modern day Comprehensive system in the early 80s to prevent elitism and segregation in English society. Grammar was taught and reinforced as part of an all round education. Starkly contrasting with the modern day spoon fed education system which places emphasis on the  regurgitation of facts for the accumulation of examination orientated qualifications.  Latin and Ancient Greek were also taught, as indeed they still are in some fee paying schools. These ancient languages form the foundation of modern day English and grammar structures. 

That said, English, being the worlds most widely spoken "second" language is continually evolving and who is to say what is grammatically correct. Just take Singaporean and American English for example.

Well its academic isn't it.  I agree with the other posters that a slow and then a normal pace is probably the way to go since I dont carry a file of pdf transcripts with me as I wander about listening to my lessons on my MP3.  This is not my first Chinese language as I already speak Cantonese reasonably fluently so I do know that repetition and creating context is key,  but sometimes its just too fast and very slow progress is made.  For instance, if I speak my native English English at my normal tempo and accent I guarantee I will lose all but the most fluent English speakers..and probably every American. And visa versa .. for instance, I couldn't understand all that Amber used to say in English because of her rather odd accent and strange syntax.

Anyway, how do you say performance..? can't find in my Pleco dictionary.

I also agree with a stage of slowing it down... its too hard to understand the new words and grammar and requires constant rewinding to understand.

How do you say performance, as in job performance/ performance appraisal.  do we say 工作能力  

Also can you give an example of how to say "we are hiring staff" or "we should hired him?".. Do we use  雇佣“？
