My computer at work seems to have a problem with typing Chinese... yes, I am paid to study Mandarin (kidding). Anyway, just wanted to share a memory from my first and last trip to Beijing in 1997. I went to a local park and remember seeing signs saying no mahjiang allowed, and under each sign was a group of older folks enjoying a few rounds of the game. I thought it was pretty funny, but no one else seemed to notice. Thanks for the entertaining lesson!

As far as I can remember (it was a while ago) the park was located in a shrine of some sort, thus the signs prohibiting mahjiang. My Chinese was non-existent at the time so my recollection of events might be somewhat skewed as I was relying on a friend to translate.
