aruhito, I actually did some research on it, and the word чухан (chuhan) in Russian is not related to the Chinese. It most likely derives from an ethnic slur about the Chuvash people (a minority in Russia).

The invitation to tell everyone else what your 老家 is seems to have been taken symbolically as well. As a ChinesePod newbie, I'll volunteer though. My 老家 is Minsk, Belarus. It has plenty of water and trees but no mountains, so I'm not sure it qualifies as a 水乡 by Jenny's definition.
