December 16, 2009 at 3:51 AMWell, my take is that his culture can influence how he looks at you plenty, but you don't know if its a big influence or not. Even if it's a big influence on this Chinese guy, culture may not be a big influence on another Chinese guy. The only way you'll know is if you keep poking and probing to try and get to know him and his likes and dislikes.
Jinyan26, I take it that you're not Chinese? By the way, is he from Taiwan or the Mainland? Hong Kong? Are you in the US? the UK?

December 16, 2009 at 3:31 AMIt's really interesting to see these old lessons dug up. There's a lesson in here somewhere.

December 16, 2009 at 3:09 AMwell, looking at the business environment from the 80,000 foot level, it's hard to start a business that's doing something really unique, especially in retail. But of course, I realize that you're not saying that it can't be done.
Is this lesson really how the process works in China? How much is this is Shanghai, and how much is China-wide? How much does it cost to establish a firm, given the need for these licenses and so on? I'm not even talking about the actual office and hiring workers, just the legalities of setting it up?
In the States, there are 3 basically types of going concerns, sole proprietorship, partnership, and a corporation. Is it the same in China?

December 15, 2009 at 6:42 PMInteresting that you would come to this website and ask dating advice. But you'll get some.
There are lots of ways to approach it, but ultimately, if you like the guy, it might be worth it to see if you can evolve the relationship into something satisfactory for both of you. I do wonder though, how well you know a guy that doesn't speak English well, and your Chinese isn't good. How do you think you'll get to know him? Whether he's worth hanging out with? There are plenty of other questions to ask of yourself and him, but no point in analyzing this to the nth degree. And you say he's 25 and you're 19?

December 12, 2009 at 3:33 AMOk, being a low intermediate (or really an elementary), this was really cool to listen to. If it had only been about 25% faster, it would have sounded like Xinwen Lianbo. Of course, I only understood about 10 words, and that was around when President Obama showed up in China. Long way to go on the Mandarin Trail Long March.

December 11, 2009 at 4:02 AMthere are a couple of places outside Lanzhou where people ski. Not quite sure if its Steamboat Springs (powder) or Killington (ice), but it's better than nothing.

December 16, 2009 at 10:09 AMchristine30550, thanks for that. It sounds much cheaper than in the US, where I guess it can be around $100,000-200,000 to form a legal corporation
