I love this poem. Pete, you are doing a great job picking a broad variety of fascinating work. And the strange visual symmetry of the characters always engrosses me when I write the poem on the train while listening to the podcast.
In this poem, for example: the foreshadowing of 先 in the same position in 洗. The rhyming between 汤 and 尝 etc. I wonder if these two characters also rhymed in classical Chinese? Or 性 and 下 for that matter...
And has anyone seen an alternate reading of 汤 as shang1?
