Posted on: A Disappointing Delivery
October 24, 2011 at 3:45 AMI am sure I'm not the first to think this was about child delivery based on the picture. I am glad I'm wrong considering the modifier "disappointing". That could've been depressing.

September 25, 2011 at 3:35 AMIronically, doesn't always work in Shanghai, but I don't think that's Chinesepod's fault.

August 13, 2011 at 5:21 AMThe pinyin for 关系 is given as "guanji" in the sentence: "跟客户建立合作关系". Just a heads-up.

Battlestar references. John, I am continuously impressed by your ability to communicate with geeks. I first noticed this in an earlier lesson in which you reference Street Fighter II. Thanks for speaking my language amongst many others.

I often see video game versions of solitaire mahjong dubbed "Shanghai." Is this a name arbitrarily given to give the game an ethnic feel or is there anything authentic about the title? (Attached is a pic for a 1987 version for the PC-Engine game system. Strange pic considering there are two men playing a one-person game.) ![]()

November 3, 2011 at 12:30 PMMy first month in China, I went to lunch with a colleague and she looked scandalized when I shouted "xiaojie" in the restaurant. That's the day I learned "fuwuyuan." (So, even in the service industry it may sound outdated too. Not too sure on this issue myself.)
