Thanks a lot for the quizlet!!

调到 should be "diào dào" though (it seems to be wrong here in the vocab section - in the dialogue and in dictionaries it's read diao4 dao4)

In the vocabulary here at chinesepod, and in any dictionary I checked in, the pronunciation of 绩 alone and in compounds (成绩,业绩 etc.) is always fourth tone ... so is "first tone" maybe a regional variation?

I agree with A222222, being exposed to regional variations in pronunciation is perfectly fine. Actually, for Intermediate Level, I think more speakers from different regions would help students to perfect their listening skills and be more prepared for a "real" Chinese environment where I believe only a minority speaks 标准 Mandarin.

However, I'd be interested in knowing if, the pronunciation is just a personal accent or, in fact, a regional variation, and if so, from what region?  (e.g. here 从 cóng being pronounced like chóng)

I'm sorry, but I am very disappointed with this new lesson I'd been eagerly waiting for so long. I don't like it at all for several reasons, mostly because I have no idea what this lesson aims at teaching us.

Firstly, there is this unbearably artificial dialogue between the two hosts, Elsha being the know-it-all teacher condescendingly lecturing and examining Tam on the many blessings of nuclear power and on current affairs although she apparently does not understand a lot about it. As a host / teacher, I think Tam has potential, but Elsha makes me cringe every time she speaks.

Secondly, there is a really long newsfeed without any analysis of the language. Instead a few names and vocab items are read out a couple of times and then there is a quick pseudo-analysis of the political situation (see above) mostly in English, for no apparent reason.

And last but not least: what about the annoying music in the background throughout the whole lesson?

P.S. I also miss expansion sentences, grammar and exercises.

我小的时候养了蚂蚁,他们住在充满泥土的玻璃容器里,从外面能看到它们挖的隧道,观测它们跑来跑去。

Thanks for the very useful lesson! Just one thing: The traditional charachter 菸 yān (in smoking - xīyān) wriggled its way into the simplified lesson PDF. You might want to change that to 吸烟.
