There's nothing wrong with western thoughts, but western words getting mixed into eastern languages is lame. I think transliterations are alright, as long as there aren't thousands of them , like there are in Japanese.

Personally I think it's wise of the Chinese government to do this. I think it's better for a language to be as pure as possible, as difficult as that may be

February 2, 2011 at 3:48 AMI'm really curious about the end of this lesson. Why is it that "NBA" and "CBA" can't be used in Chinese media ? Does it have anything to do with the Chinese government trying prevent foreign words and acronyms from furthur becoming a part of Chinese society and culture ?

There are two reasons why I disagree with this:
1. It's important for a foreign language speaker to not translate things in his/her mind, but to spit out the target language without even thinking in the native language.
2. A lot of the English sentences in the Audio Reviews are understandably unnatural , since they have been translated into English from Chinese , which causes some sentences to be tough to translate and therefore become unnatural sentences. It isn't good practice for listeners to try to translate unnatural English sentences into Chinese

I have a suggestion I'd like to make regarding the Audio Reviews for Chinesepod lessons.
I think it would be much better if the Chinese sentences/phrases/words came before the English ones, to encourage an effort to think/recall the meanings of the words and sentences before they are read out for us to listen to. If the Chinese stuff came first, that would emmulate a real life situation that would challenge listeners to figure out the meaning on the spot. Also, since most of the sentences make much more sense in Chinese, because they were originally Chinese sentences that were translated into English, it would be better to hear the natural Chinese sentences first, rather than hearing unnatural English sentences/phrases, followed by the original Chinese
I realize that you guys can't do anything about previous lessons, but it would be really nice if future Audio Reviews were recorded with the Chinese words/sentences before the English ones

February 3, 2011 at 2:23 AMArabic numberals ( 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,6, 7, 8 , 9, etc. ) , in my opinion shouldn't be a part of Chinese script. I think if someone wants to write " 14 students" in Chinese, it should be " 十四个学生” or “ 十四個學生” rather than " 14 个学生” or " 14 個學生”
They same goes for other situations where numbers are needed.
