September 16, 2008, 09:39 AMKen made a small mistake: passport 护照 is hu4zhao4 while pepper 胡椒 is hu2jiao1. Although they sound similar at first to some English speakers, it's important for CSL students to distinguish between "zhao" and "jiao" pinyin sounds, as they are completely different sounds in Chinese. As Jenny said "差得很远". Please do not confuse them. I guess Ken hasn't noticed this after 10 plus years of learning the language.
