I think it is interesting to compare the civilness in 台湾 as opposed to the 大陆. When I was in Taiwan a month ago everyone would line up for the metro, and as I was coming from China I had lost much of my sense of properness, so the first time I boarded the metro in Tabei I tried to rush in disregarding those in front of me and those leaving the train...people aroud me glared in dissaproval. Another big difference is that the Taiwanese always stand on the right side of escalators and leave the left side open for the climbers. While I do hate getting stuck in the blobs that gather in Chinese train stations I think in some situations like this we have to join the pack and nudge our way through like everyone else. I agree with gunnellr. 有一俗话说： “先下手为强” xiānxiàshǒuwéiqiáng - he who strikes first gains the advantage

这个课文是我新最喜欢的. I sort of tried this "ploy“ last night, but I forgot to spill beer on my shirt and take it off...so it actually worked pretty well.
