mostly better technology. their marketing has really improved over the years; hence, more-and-more people are jumping into apple brands. then again i could definitely be wrong...i am curious what steve jobs would say about this :)

RJ, the ipad has already replaced many user's laptops. not only do i know many personally--and none of them are females or gay males--but you can also see this in industry sales reports ("the death of the laptop / netbook"). however, for people who do more than use the internet, movies, music, etc--and most of your average users use computers for this reason--the ipad will definitely not replace other computer functions. this is where you are correct. i am a developer, and even though i may make software for the ipad, of course i will not develop USING an ipad. however, i also teach about a dozen drumming students per week, and the ipad became an AWESOME addition to my studio. i work for a hosting company, and of course their network administrators won't use an ipad to remotely control machines via SSH. no tablet will replace these functions yet; a real keyboard just feels so much better for typing all of those weird commands :)

a user wearing a tux icon would think that :P i have extensive experience (user experience, software development experience, and network administrative experience) with nearly every system since 1999. when it comes to mobile computing, apple remains not only as today's supreme model, but by far the best choice for your average user. think about it: apple introduced the ipad and then everyone in the world thought it was awesome. other companies followed because apple was the first company to show the industry how to make an awesome tablet for your average person :) in the past, when microsoft released a tablet, no one in the industry really cared... so not many companies followed into the tablet foot-steps.
