"Private placement" is indeed a common finance term. I've never actually heard the term "public placement," though. More often you hear public offering, as in initial public offering (IPO).

"Private equity" is not to be confused with "private placement." The first often refers to a type of investing firm. The second is a method of raising capital: sell to 特定 investors rather than on 交易所 in a public offering.

To an American in the investment business, the English equivalents given for some of the key vocabulary words in this lesson seem a little off: 基金 in context of the lesson means "investment fund", not "bank fund". 回报 in the investment context is "return" not "repayment". In other contexts, such as returning favors or kindnesses, "repay/repayment" or "reciprocate/reciprocation" would be an appropriate English equivalent. 收益 is typically referred to in American English as investment "return" not "gain"; it can be positive or negative. "Gain" is always positive and can be "realized" (if the investment is actually sold) or "unrealized" (still holding onto an investment that has gone up in price).
