I was travelling in China in 1989 one month before the Tian an men events. The experience was similar as yours. In Kun ming we had booked the railway tickets back to Bej jing. When we came to the office, the official could not find them. We should have come on the next day. The other day he again had nothing for us. Our friend opened his knife. I ll kill you if you dont find our tickets. He found them immediately. It was really great fun in China in 80s. But some people were nice.
