His professionalism and personality were in just the right balance to make the lessons interesting. Ken and Jenny were a great team, and lots of fun to listen to. Of course John's style also has some advantages. I like the fact that John spells out the pinyin of the words. That definitely helps, since a chinese newbie usually has trouble distinguishing similar sounds such as ji jie zhi zhe.
In Ken's lessons, I always had to check the pinyin in the pdf, which was ok. It's the main reason I bought an ipod touch. I can use the pdf reader! I've been living my life all these years without giving my money to Apple, look what you made me do!

January 6, 2012 at 12:47 AMI lost my passport in Shanghai not long ago. Replacing the passport at the US consulate was a very simple matter. Replacing the visa was the hard part. I had a one-year multi-entry tourist visa. I was living in Nantong at the time. The Chinese immigration department charged me the full price for a new visa, but they only gave me 1 week with 0 entries. I had to go back to the Chinese consulate in Chicago to apply for a new visa.
