How are 民族‘s classified? Is it paternal? I've heard that it's supposed to be paternal in the Confucian system but I've met Chinese people with minority status whose father was 汉族 but was registered as a minority bc of their mother. Even 汉族‘s， how are they classified？If a person has two parents where one parent is registered as 汉族 but the parent's parents are 汉族 and 蒙族， and the other parent‘s parent is registered 汉族but this parent’s parents are 汉族 and 壮族。How should the person be registered？

Uyghurs or 维吾尔族 are quite complicated。Well，the people of 新疆 are of mixed ancestry。Supposedly，there were indo－european called Tocharians，who were the first to settle in xinjiang or Tarim Basin。The Tocharians were later flooded by Turkic people－Uyghurs，Kazakhs，and the Kirghizs。Tha's why some people from 新疆 look European or have European features。
