While on the subject of bosses how do you write "pedantic" in Chinese characters and can you combine it with shen2jing1bing4 ;-)

My dictionary gives ban3 板 the meaning put on a stern face. So a boss is "old put on a stern face" kinda appropriate for my boss but from the fun you seem to have sounds like it doesn't fit yours Jenny!

Either the charecter for shi1 wrong in the exercises or a new character has been introduced..... unless my browser is playing games with me but it shows up as 师 everywhere else! I wonder too about the immersion thing, doing this in Rural england with no chinese friends is not the most simple of challenges. I cope pretty well now with newbie lessons but my vocabulary is growing so slowly.... I remember when I hear the lessons again but I'm not sure thats not just because I remember the lesson rather than the chinese.... I really notice the think thing with numbers, I know them well but when Jenny rattles off a phone number I'm concious of translating 'cos I have to keep listening to the number and get it in lots of goes (i'm really gonna have to go for losts of 什么)

Is it me or does the re4 in the dialog sound ... I don't know different to the kind of emphatic fourth tone I'm used to. It sounds to me that it goes up in tone in the middle.... Jenny's pronounciation in the case does seem to be very much more the 4th tone I was expecting.. Is this a colloqial thing? Or am I just confused... Trevor
