December 12, 2008, 03:50 AMpete,
you're such a nice guy who is always willing to help others, and i admire you've learned a second language so well.
seems like unless you live in the native-speaking environment for years, you won't command the language. To improve your listening and speaking skills, you have to practice again and again.
also the vocabulary is very important, i've known more than ten thousands English words, but everytime I read something new, there will be words I can't recognise. my speaking and listening skills are much poorer.
I can't even imagine how long it will take to learn a language well enough, while i've learned English for more than ten years. How pathetic it is.
Still, it's really a good atomsphere here to learn Chinese and English,哈哈,because 90% words here are English.

when someone ask you what did you eat,you can say我吃了鱼to answer this question or 我吃了一条鱼。
maybe 我吃了鱼is a little bit colloquial

December 11, 2008, 12:59 AM慈悲既包含慈祥的意思也包含怜悯的意思。
形容一个善人的时候通常会说他以慈悲为怀。
同情就是怜悯的意思,而且通常作为动词用。

December 10, 2008, 12:48 PMI think it's ok to borrow/lend some money, because everyone may have some trouble sometimes and they really need help.
of course people should pay back the money duly to build their credibility.
like what a saying said:有借有还,再借不难。
