October 23, 2010 at 7:12 PMWhy is 可不是 translated as "exactly"? Shouldn't the translation be "but it is not"? I know I am wrong, I just don't understand why. Isn't 不 = "NOT"? and 可="but"?
therefore 可不是 logically seems like should translate to "but is not" (i.e. disagreeing with the previous speaker).....but the PDF says the meaning is "EXACTLY" (i.e. agreeing with the previous speaker)..
It seems that the meaning of this phrase is exactly the opposite of what I think it means.
please explain. thanks
