Parents are interested in who the kids are dating, yes, but until it's serious, you don't want to constantly be talking to your mom and dad about how things are going!
Also, in the US at least, many kids live far away from their parents so meeting your boyfriend/girlfriend's parents involves someone traveling great distances. You're usually only going to do that if it's a long-term relationship.
