November 30, 2010 at 7:22 AMJohn, I have a suggestion I'd like to offer you. If a word phrase like 下館子 somes up, maybe you can just mention that some people say 上館子 as well. Something like " They say 下館子 in north , and 上館子in the south". That would probably take about 3 seconds. I asked a native speaker about 下館子 and she thought that it was a typo and that it should be 上 instead of 下. It would have saved us some confusion if this was mentioned in the lesson

November 30, 2010 at 3:51 AMI agree with you too, about Chinese people sometimes not being good at putonghua/Mandarin. I would love it if the Chinese government tried to implement a nation wide campaign to motivate its citizens to speak Putonghua/Mandarin Chinese well. If they've already tried that, maybe they should try harder

November 29, 2010 at 11:04 AMI have a question that's been bugging me for a long time.
The character 哎 comes up a few times in the dialogue, but the way it is pronounced is different in the second to last sentence. There, it is pronounced "ei", rather than "ai", but the pinyin is the same.
My question is: is this one of those characters that has alternate pronunciations that aren't listed in the dictionary? There seem to be quite a few of these mystery characters

November 28, 2010 at 6:32 AMwell, first off, 博客 means "blog", not "podcast".
"Podcast" is 播客 bo1 ke4. My guess is that since bo1 ke4 and bo2ke4 are both relatively new words in Chinese, and both sound really close (even to Chinese people), so sometimes people use English. Another thing is , Chinese people love to speak Chinglish sometimes.
