John and Jenny,

Thanks for dialogue which I found rather funny as it plays on something that you hear ALL the time as a foreigner in China.

I just wanted to point out that we all do it though. I'm French and my husband is American. When we were in China we'd hear about the 5000 years of history constantly. When we moved to France, my husband got told a million times "did you know that in France there are more cheeses than days in a year?". I had NO IDEA people actually said this! We're in the US now, and so it's my turn to get my ears blastered with proud comments about random things (like cheese or history!). I swear if I hear one more time a sentence starting in "In America" I'll resort to medication! ;)

Hi,

In the expansion vocab of this lesson, there is this sentence, ”你在做什么？“ where zai seems to be used like the English "ing" and is translated as "currently".

Could you say 我在看一本书？i.e. can we use zai + verb to say that someone is presently doing something?
