April 2, 2014 at 12:36 AM啊，my mistake. 收银机 does exist in China. Only 'self-checkout' 自助收银机 is not appropriate for China.
But you know what, I did see 自助收银机 in Shanghai last weekend. I was so surprised. The staff will help you to scan the thing you bought. And then you will get a bill. You can use auto-cashier machine to pay by card or cash. That's amazing. I tried it. Very convienient.
