I am excited to hear about future meet-ups in Shanghai!  Even though I spend all day speaking Chinese at work, it's always invigorating to be around a group of people interested in improving their Chinese!

Keep us informed with further details.

I am also interested in whether the dialogue accurately represents criminal proceedings in a Chinese court. Based on my experience in a Chinese law firm, business/IPR proceedings are significantly different than their foreign counterparts (which are quite varied themselves).

Access to the Chinese legal system is usually very limited for foreigners, so I think it's really interesting to learn the Chinese perspective on the courtroom setting.  I have searched for a Chinese legal drama, but, unfortunately, they are non-existent.

@matt_c I have seen that show, too.  Although the show is peppered with occasional outbursts between the defendants and their accusers, it is no more exciting than an outburst at the grocery store. Where is the suspense and drama!?!?

我觉得今天的课文很有趣。我与我的美国朋友都喜欢看这种比赛,希望将来可以进入!

For all of you who are nervous about taking the HSK, don't be.  I have been taking Chinese at a very intense level for three years, but I still learn new words here at ChinesePod (sometimes 7+ in an advanced or even intermediate high lesson).  In spite of this, I still did very well on the HSK (high enough to direct enroll in college classes at Nanjing University!).

My suggestion is to take it.  Even if you don't do well, you will have a chance to guage your own progress and prepare for the time when you want to "do well."  Read Chinese newspaper often, listen to ChinesePod, and watch Chinese TV online.  If you do these things often, you may be surprised with the score you get.
