Here's an eye opening article on sexual violence in Indian Country: "Tiny Little Laws", Kathy Dobie, Harper's Feb 2011.

In response to bodawei's comments about water testing: here's a website you can learn more about water testing: http://oasisdesign.net/water/quality/testing.htm#top His books are interesting too.

Thanks for the reality checks bodawei. Economic realities offer perspective.

The audio review for this lesson is a bit weak, too short. The exercises seem duplicated. IOW the matching section has the same words twice.

I like the revamp on the exercises.

The exercise section in lessons could be expanded more. Teach Yourself Chinese has some good exercises.

Hi, I live in Taiwan and teach ESL at 2 universities and have a small English school in our house. I'm a bit surprised by the cultural situations in this lesson but I realize Taiwanese culture may be different. My comments are meant to understand not to criticize.
During class it is difficult getting students to ask questions.  In this lesson for the teacher to not answer the student’s questions seems unusual. I would welcome their questions. This is simply my opinion.
At our apartment neighbors often come over unannounced to talk with us. Often my wife asks the nosey one's to call beforehand. (I’m talking about a parent who comes over 6 times unannounced.) But it never works. People just come over whenever they feel like it. I guess foreigners attract attention.
Perhaps another example: We come home on a Saturday night at 6pm carrying our dinner. An old student’s parent who has our phone number is waiting to talk with us. She was “just in the neighborhood”. So my wife talks with her for 30 minutes.
I searched the lessons using the keyword “neighbor*” and found nothing. Could a lesson be created about the cultural differences in calling beforehand vs just dropping by? I’m trying to understand this issue.
Another idea for a lesson is on cell phone use differences. In Taiwanese culture no one seems to leave voice messages or use the service. When they call they expect someone to answer their call no matter the time. If person B doesn’t pick up they will call the home phone. Forget about using an answering machine. No one leaves messages on it.
TIA

I'm a newbie. I find the Expansion sentences to be very useful but I'd like more practice with them. Can a sentence flash-card function be added? I'd like to be able to copy the Expansion ping ying sentence, paste it on to my flash-card deck. And do the same with the audio track. This would add to the idea of learning words lexically? (Perhaps not the right term. IOW I want to learn phrases as a unit.)
