Nǐ hǎo, redbed21,

Learning a language is great fun and very rewarding. I hope you can find some other kids who can learn with you. Maybe one of your friends - even one without any Chinese heritage. Ask some of your smarter friends. I'll bet anything their parents would be glad to pay for Chinese Pod. You could start a club with Mandarin being your secret language! There is a group for 13 year olds here, but maybe you should start one for younger kids.

My daughter-in-law is Chinese American; her first language was Cantonese. I would really like for my grandkids to learn Mandarin, but it is up to their parents, not me. They are too young for Chinese Pod: 3 years old and one month old! But the older one learned to speak some Cantonese when he visited his grandparents last year.

You have begun a journey of many thousands of words, and just as a journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step, your journey begins with a single word - though I bet you already know quite a few!

I am just beginning to learn Mandarin, and it's a lot harder for us old folks! But it is still a lot of fun.

Happy learning!
